Freeman, Kathleen, The pre–Socratic philosophers. A companion to Diels’ Fragmente (500 pp.; Oxford: Blackwell, 1946, reprinted 1949). This work is seldom if ever mentioned by me, because I did not know of its existence until the end of my own labor. It is listed here because it will be of very great use to scholars who do not read Greek.

Isis. International review devoted to the history of science and civilization. Official journal of the History of Science Society. Founded and edited by George Sarton (43 vols., 1913–1952). The many references to Isis in this volume are generally made to complete in the briefest manner the information given about this or that book or memoir. From them the reader may obtain quickly, if he wishes, either a critical review of the book or some other additional information the development of which would take too much space.
