This is the bar in Piccadilly, now a restaurant, where Watson dropped in for a drink while looking in vain for affordable London accommodation. Here, he met young Stamford who suggested meeting another friend of his who was also looking for a flat-share – the friend happened to be Sherlock Holmes.

The famous statue in Piccadilly commonly known as Eros – actually called the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain – and designed by Alfred Gilbert which is close to the Café Royal where Holmes was set upon in The Adventure of the Illustrious Client.
