EFFECTS OF ENGLISH, FRENCH, AND BRITISH SETTLEMENT

Many effects, intended and otherwise, were created by European settlement in the Americas. Diseases and agricultural products introduced by Europeans dramatically changed the ecosystem of the Americas. Settlement fundamentally altered population patterns in Africa (with the loss of slaves) and in the Americas (with the loss of Native American populations). Settlements in America gradually introduced representative government and freedom of religion when these concepts were not popular in much of Europe.
