THE PRESIDENCY OF GEORGE WASHINGTON
Although he did not seek the presidency, the national reputation of George Washington made him the most logical choice to be the first chief executive of the United States of America, For at least the first term of Washington’s administration, the future of the United States remained uncertain. Washington felt that it was crucial to establish respect for the office of President of the United States. Washington believed it was his job to administer the laws and not to make them; he almost never made legislative proposals to the Congress.
