Part Two

Diagnostic Test

HOW TO TAKE THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST

Before taking a diagnostic test, find a quiet room where you can work uninterrupted for one hour. Make sure you have several No. 2 pencils with erasers.

Record your answers on a separate piece of paper. Guidelines for scoring your test appear on the reverse side of the answer grid. Time yourself. Spend no more than one hour on the 90 questions. Once you start the practice test, don’t stop until you’ve reached the one-hour time limit. You’ll find an answer key and complete answer explanations following the test. Be sure to read the explanations for all questions, even those you answered correctly. Finally, you’ll learn how the diagnostic test can help you in your review of U.S. history.

Good luck!

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR SCORE

Step 1: Figure out your raw score. Refer to your answer sheet to determine the number right and the number wrong on the test you’re scoring. You can use the formula below to figure out your raw score. Multiply the number wrong by 0.25 and subtract the result from the number right. Round the result to the nearest whole number. This is your raw score.

Step 2: Find your diagnostic test score. Find your raw score in the left of each column of the table below. The score in the right of each column is an approximation of what your score would be on the SAT Subject Test: U.S. History.

A note on your diagnostic test scores: Don’t take these scores too literally. Practice test conditions cannot precisely mirror real test conditions. Your actual SAT Subject Test: U.S. History score will almost certainly vary from your practice test scores. However, your scores on the practice tests will give you a rough idea of your range on the actual exam.
