Fitting of 6pdr guns

The following Flower class corvettes are listed in ADM 239/75 (formerly Admiralty confidential reference book CB 1815) as having a 6pdr in each bridge wing in April 1944 (photos exist of several): Buttercup, Rose, Roselys, Eglantine, Stonecrop, Renoncule, Aconite, Narcissus, Lobelia, Campion, Vervain, Myosotis, Mignonette, Dianthus, Kingcup, Orchis, Kriezes (ex-CoreopsisCompass Rose in the film of The Cruel Sea), Primrose, Nada (ex-Mallow), HMCS Brandon (3pdr). Also the destroyers Restigouche, Chaudière, Qu’appelle. March adds: Active, Anthony, Arrow, Antelope.1

The gun was the Hotchkiss Mk I, dating from 1884, most on non-recoil mounts. It had a muzzle velocity of 1,765ft/sec, giving a range of 9,400 yards. HE and AP shot were available. No record of its use has been found.
