APPENDIX 6
This list honours those German Army officers who went against their oath of allegiance to conspire against Hitler, an action punishable by imprisonment or death. It is not meant to denigrate in any way all those who fought for their country and remained loyal to their oath, but to provide a particular honour to those who overrode their oath, risking their lives or careers for a greater cause—that of humanity. It also includes some names of soldiers who saved Jews at personal risk to themselves (indicated by an asterisk).
The list does not include police officers or the civilians who were also actively involved in plotting against Hitler. Nor does it include military personnel such as Admiral Canaris or General Oster who actively plotted but also committed treason in the real sense of the word, when their actions provided aid to the enemy and endangered the lives of their own people.
The list is partial only, the names of those listed being representative of all those who dared.
