Just over a century ago, in 1913, Heinrich Lübbe won the Buenos-Aires - Montevideo trophy on board his Rumpler Taube aircraft. A little more than thirty years later, the business created by this very man was responsible for the first operational combat flight of a jet aeroplane. A first in the history of humanity. A century later, millions of people use aeroplanes every day to fly from one corner of the world to another.
In this book, in what is an amazingly brief look at the first thirty years of aviation history, I wanted to show my admiration for the creative genius of the aeronautical engineers, and especially for the extraordinary pilots who allowed this giant technological leap to happen.
They all worked together, but alas, their misfortune was too great...
