CAPTURED BRITISH ARMOUR

The fall of Greece meant that the total 300 vehicles used by the British and Commonwealth Forces were captured by the Germans in Yugoslavia and Greece during Operation Marita. The Yugoslavian 1st Tank Battalion (Batalion Bornih Kola) also yielded some 110 tanks.

Captured Yugoslavian and Greek tanks along with tanks transferred from France were assigned to infantry divisions in Serbia, Croatia and eventually Bosnia. A number were also used for railway defence in those areas and in armoured trains.

Captured from the British were some 140 tanks, including Matilda II, Cruiser (e.g. Mark II) and Light Tanks, hut it is unknown how many were pressed, if any at all, into German service.

A French tank crew is taken into captivity. The prisoners are immobilised by the simple expedient of forcing them to drop their trousers to their ankles.
