Aventail

mail protection for the head, somewhat like a balaclava.

Commote

a Welsh administrative division, roughly equivalent to the English hundred.

Jack

protective jacket worn by soldiers usually either of padded material or covered by thin metal plates.

Lanec

a term that could be used to describe either a single mounted soldier or a group of three: man-at-arms, archer and attendant.

Man-at-arms

a soldier, sometimes, but not necessarily, a knight, armed with sword and a variety of pole-type weapons. Usually armoured.

Schiltron

a massed formation of Scottish spearmen.

Uchelwyr

Welsh gentry, in some cases descended from the former Welsh ruling families.
