Field Marshal MONTGOMERY felt that Horrocks was one of the best Corps Commanders available for World War II and appointed him to command XIII Corps in the Battles of Alam Halfa and Alamein in the Western Desert. He accompanied Montgomery to Europe where he commanded XXX Corps in the Battle of Normandy, the advance to Brussels, Operation Market Garden to take Arnhem and the drive into Germany. An outstanding Commander, Horrocks led his Corps and Armies with drive and ability.
