When I’m Sixty-Four

In chapter five we discussed a few of the new emotional expressions here and there within the Great Tree of Expressions (e.g., in the sections called “Prides” and “Respects”). But there are many, many more! Here we address each of the new cases within the upcoming eight diagrams, one diagram for each of the eight acknowledgment leaf clusters in the earlier diagrams (Figures 29 and 30 on pages 116 and 118, respectively).

We hope you’ll tend to find that our choice of terms isn’t so bad, and sometimes even pretty good. But we’re certain you’ll find better terms in some cases. The issue isn’t whether we have chosen the “right” word in English. Our choices hope just to be in the ballpark of having the negotiation-related meaning within the diagram. Once we’ve settled on a term, we then can use it later in a more technical fashion to simply mean that specific negotiation-related meaning.

We encourage you to set aside some time to walk through a number of cases.
