A couple weeks after they begin a trial separation and the husband moves out, a neighbor she doesn’t know comes banging on her fence and screaming at her because his dog has gotten loose and she has gotten freaked out because her dog, on leash, often doesn’t do well with loose dogs. She can control her dog but is not prepared to break up a dogfight between two eighty-pound dogs. Thankfully she doesn’t have to on this occasion, but this neighbor accuses her of being unfriendly, of having once called the cops on him about trash on his property. She has not called the cops on him or anyone else. Her husband has once called this neighbor’s landlord about the trash around their building, having nothing to do with this neighbor, which may be the source of his confusion. She remains calm while she is being yelled at, tries to be reasonable, but he just wants to yell. This is the kind of thing that usually makes her want to move, but she’s out of moves. It is now the kind of thing that makes her pick up the phone and call her husband screaming. Just come back. Just get your shit together and come back and fix this. I can’t do this by myself.
